I am using my phone to write this up since I have no computer. :(
What are the subjects or themes you want to deal with? Why are they interesting?
I am using style and colour to represent emotion. Angry emotions. I guess because this is how I felt when I was with David, very angry but I learnt to keep my emotions inside myself to hide. This is a self portrait of my emotions, using a sculpture that has no emotion portrayed on the face - showing what I looked like and a drawing behind of my face very angry plus a painting that just uses colour and an Expressionist style to portray anger. This will interest people because they will wonder why the girl is angry and will be able to relate to feeling angry at times and being in situations where they have to suppress it and hide what they feel. The viewer will be able to make connections into feeling the same way in different moments for different reasons to connect into their own lives.
How does your intended work connect with the negotiated parameters of the event?
Have not made any parameters as a class, except to be aware not to take up too much space. So limit number of large pieces.
What research and development will you need to undertake in order to make your project successful?
Do further research on Abstract Expressionist artists and similar contemporary styles used to express anger. I will visit the current Abstract Expressionist exhibition on at National Gallery.
How do you intend to explore materials, media, formats, concepts and ideas in developing this work?
I will experiment with paint and mediums such as shellac, impasto, and other sculptural mediums that can be mixed with paint. Will also experiment with ways to apply the paint and how to paint in an expressive, angry manner to make the emotions feel real. I will have to make myself angry to do so. I will play around with the scribble style of drawing so that I can also channel more anger through the style- yet have it a bit more realistic with shadows etc. I will experiment with different scales to work on to be most effective. I am also going to experiment with how to do the sculpture, whether with wire, clay, or plaster I am not sure yet.
How will you resolve (and present) the final work in order to leave a lasting impression on the viewer?
The painting and drawing will be quite large and full of emotion the viewer can relate to so they will remember my work.
How would you like viewers to interpret/interact with your work?
I would like them to empathise, so feel the anger I am putting into it.
How will you work as part of a team?
We have each been assigned tasks to complete for the exhibition to be successful. I am in charge of budgeting, plus we all have to work together in the fundraising efforts.
What types of promotional materials/strategies will you engage in?
The class will be making a postcard each to promote ourselves by sending out to VIP's plus having to hand out at exhibition. I want to have a business card as well, and will be advertising on social networking sites like Facebook and on blogs. Posters would be a good idea to put out, and there will be a Momentum catalogue with a short bio and picture for every student included.
How will you ensure quality control?
Keep an eye on key dates, personal budget, make sure I have at least something to hang at exhibition. Touch base with class every week to make sure I don't fall behind or miss out on important info.
And I'm done! Wasn't sure what quality control means so I guessed lol. My thumb is sore now from writing so much with my phone. I'll see everyone next week! :)
Tessa.
