soo, I was on my way home from cit today, enjoying the sunshine and thinking about what needs to be done when an idea popped into my head for how to do my intended sculpture. The idea for the sculpture is for it to be a bust which represents the blankness/lack of expression that I show on the outside to everyone, as well as the inner turmoil and rage that I suppress inside myself. I am thinking that I can start with a metal armature twisted and spun around itself in a mess of wire, then use something like air drying clay perhaps (or if anyone has a better idea for what to use...) and have the clay incredibly smooth in a perfect oval head shape, with bust as well. Then I could show what is inside the head in a little portion, on the top or side, where the head is peeling back or cracked maybe. Just to show what is happening inside this smooth calm head is turmoil and craziness. The style of the wire also mirrors the style used in my self portrait with scribbling technique. It would be life size.
Thoughts?
Here is a pic of my wire so far.
I also have a draft for my artist bio so if anyone could give me ideas on how to make it good and sound smart that would be helpful!! :)
Tessa Lavers is a studying artist, working in Modern Expressionism to explore ways of portraying emotion using colour and style. Her art reflects on strong feelings from her past, which she keeps hidden and suppressed. She hopes to use these emotions to connect with experiences in other people's lives to offer them empathy and a chance to reflect.

I was curious about how my installation from last year's multiples assignment was doing, since it's been there for so long now. So I took some pics, looks like no one really ventures down this way so it is undisturbed.
One last thing, this is what it looks like when I need to get paint down but don't know how, or what I'm doing yet. At least it's a start right? :) lol
Have a good, hopefully productive holiday everyone! :)

Some strong ideas here Tessa. I think your sculpture idea sounds good. Maybe you could experiment with materials to 'cover' the wire head - paper or even plastic might represent 'skin'; but maybe you are wanting to portray a hard outer shell (like plaster). It will be interesting to see this work in progress.
ReplyDeleteI love the marks you have made with paint, very expressive.
